The Greater Cincinnati Foundation is giving about $1 million in grants to local organizations whose programs help families affected by the recession.
The official announcement came Tuesday from the foundation.
The grants are part of the Weathering the Economic Storm Fund, which has reached more than $2 million since its forming in March.
The grants, including those to the Salvation Army in Over-the-Rhine and the Brighton Center in Covington, went to 19 organizations.
The Salvation Army's grant will go toward its rental, utilities and emergency assistance program. Money to the Legal Aid societies of Southwest Ohio and the Bluegrass will go toward legal services that help people avoid foreclosure or eviction. Money to the Butler County and Hamilton County Home Preservation groups will help homeowners with emergency mortgage assistance.
