GENEROUS GIRL MOTIVATES CHARITY
Four-year-old Hannah Turner uttered six words on Thanksgiving Day 2004 that eventually changed her older brother's life and brought a unique, nonprofit organization to Greater Cincinnati.
The next day, Hannah and her adoptive mother, Doris Turner, along with the girl's seven adopted brothers and sisters, left their Perrysburg home, bought 100 pairs of new socks and delivered them to the mission up the road in Toledo.
"It was an especially cold, windy day," Doris Turner said. "We were waiting our turn to serve dinner. Hannah saw a man with ripped shoes and no socks underneath. I looked down, and she was taking off her shoes and socks."
Turner tried to assure her daughter that the man would be OK. Hannah wasn't buying it. She put her shoes and socks back on only when her mother agreed to go out with her the next day and buy the socks.
And Hannah's Socks, a nonprofit agency with a well-defined niche, was born.
