LOVELAND – The audience was small, in numbers and stature, but their spirit and enthusiasm made up for their size.
Children at Ohio Valley Voices, a school for deaf and hearing-impaired, sat on the floor as professional musicians walked among them. Their small hands reached up to touch the clarinet, tuba and French horn, feeling the vibrations as the instruments were played.
It was the second visit this school year from School House Symphony, a non-profit organization that brings music to schools in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
The six members of the group played flute, violin, clarinet, cello, French horn, tuba, trombone and percussion. And, they talked about the instrument families and how the instruments make sounds.
“It’s so up close and personal,” said Laura Proffit, managing director of School House Symphony. “We’re not separated on a stage. We’re with the children. We try to answer questions, interact, have them touch the instruments.”
