Food charities struggle to keep up with demand
A slow economy has meant brisk business at area soup kitchens and food pantries.
Crowds usually only seen during the holidays have regularly snaked down Ninth Street in Newport outside the Henry Hosea House, which serves free dinners to needy people.
The past month has seen more than 200 people come to the Hosea House nightly for dinner, about 50 more than usual.
